Ilgar Bajarani, born on June 21, 1965, in Baku, Azerbaijan, is an International Master and one of the country’s most respected chess coaches. Since 1987, he has guided the careers of players from beginners to grandmasters. His lifelong commitment to chess education earned him the FIDE Senior Trainer title in 2016.
Competitive Career and Olympiad Experience
As a competitive player, Ilgar Bajarani represented Azerbaijan at the 31st Chess Olympiad in Moscow (1994). He also won or placed in international events like Baile Herculane (1994) and Victory Week (1995). While his competitive success is noteworthy, his greatest impact has come through coaching.

Ilgar Bajarani has coached many of Azerbaijan’s most successful players. His students include GM Rufat Bagirov, GM Eltaj Safarli, and his son, GM Ulvi Bajarani — all of whom have been crowned Azerbaijan Champions.
