Grandmaster Sarhan Guliev, born on April 1, 1968, in Qubadli, Azerbaijan, has been a pillar of the chess world for decades. He earned his International Grandmaster title in 1995 and has achieved numerous tournament victories, including the Dubai Open (2007), A. Zaitsev Memorial in Vladivostok (1994), and the Azerbaijan Championship (1997). Representing Azerbaijan, he competed in the Chess Olympiads of 1994 (Moscow) and 1998 (Elista), showcasing his exceptional playing strength on the global stage.
Beyond his competitive career, GM Guliev has been an influential chess coach since 1988. His extensive experience includes training strong players like GM Rashad Babaev and GM Elshan Moradiabadi, as well as leading national teams from Turkey and Iran. Recognized for his outstanding coaching contributions, he was awarded the prestigious FIDE Senior Trainer title in 2011.
In addition to coaching, he is a respected chess author.
