Azer Mirzoev, an International Grandmaster since 2001, has been a distinguished presence in the chess world. His tournament victories include 1st place finishes in Elgoibar (2006), Calvi (2010), the 7th Beirut International Open (2014), Wasselonne Open (2017), New York 1000 GM Summer GM-B (2024), and Innsbruck Open (2024). These achievements reflect his deep understanding of the game and his ability to compete at the highest levels.

Beyond his competitive success, Azer Mirzoev is a dedicated and experienced chess coach. With over two decades of coaching experience, he has mentored notable players such as IM Vugar Manafov and multiple-time European and World Youth Champion WIM Ayan Allahverdiyeva. One of his most significant coaching accomplishments was leading the Azerbaijan-3 team to victory in the 2nd rating group of the 2016 Chess Olympiad, demonstrating his ability to develop and guide players in team competitions.
