Welcome to Azeri Chess Academy, a premier chess institution led by Grandmaster Ulvi Bajarani —Azerbaijan Men’s Champion (2014) and a member of Azerbaijan’s National Olympiad Team at the 2016 Chess Olympiad.

Azerbaijan’s Chess Legacy

Chess has been an integral part of Azerbaijan’s culture since the 1920s, but it was in the 1970s that a structured approach to developing chess talent took shape. The establishment of multiple chess schools across Azerbaijan, alongside the Republican Chess School, which also coordinated the work of its district chess school branches, laid the foundation for training exceptional players under the guidance of dedicated coaches. This system produced world-class talents, including:
✔️ Garry Kasparov – 13th World Chess Champion
✔️ Elmar Magerramov – The first International Grandmaster of independent Azerbaijan and the silver medalist of the USSR Chess Championship 1991
✔️ Azerbaijan Women’s Team – Champions of the IX Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR (1986)

Even after the dissolution of the USSR, Azerbaijani chess continued to thrive, with experienced players developing unique coaching methods that have shaped new generations of champions. This legacy is reflected in Azerbaijan’s modern chess successes, including:
🏆 European Team Chess Championships – Men’s Team Gold (2007, 2013, 2017)
🥈 European Team Chess Championships – Women’s Team Silver (2023), Bronze (1992, 2019, 2021)
🏆 World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad – Champions (2019)
🥇 Multiple medals in World and European Youth Chess Championships

Beyond Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani chess coaches have played a key role in strengthening chess cultures in Turkey and Iran, where their students have achieved remarkable international successes.
